Week 10 - Group 4: Evidence Objectivity

Today, my group is present the fourth topic, which is Evidence Objectivity. The presentation was going through WhatsApp as usual and we give our video presentation and slide to our classmate members as sources for today's learning. After they watch the video, we conduct a QnA session for them regarding this topic. Next, we give them an activity by giving a picture of fruits and vegetables or we can say healthy food to evaluate their understanding of objective vs subjective evidence. Next, we also conduct a quiz to see whether they have a good understanding of this topic. The interesting part about this quiz is, the top 3 students who get high marks and the fastest response in the WhatsApp group class, will be rewarded by the presenter (my group and I).

Summary of the topic:

From this topic, evidence objectivity can be referred to as information based on facts that can be proved by means of search like analysis, measurement, and observation. Objectivity can be classified to product objectivity and process objectivity. Science is objective in its product; theories, laws, and observation which is accurate to represent the information to the world. Meanwhile, science is objective in processes and methods that characterize it not based on social and ethical values, nor on the individual bias of a scientist. there are three characteristics of objectivity, which are:
  • based on scientific facts rather than other opinions
  • results and data is based on continuous testing, then confirmed by this party
  • free from personal bias
The opposite of objectivity is subjectivity. Objectivity based on facts, while subjectivity refers to personal opinions, assumptions, and beliefs. Subjective evidence cannot be evaluated because it influences by personal experience. We have two options, whether to accept other opinions or reject it. Objectivity is important in science because scientific studies tend to get as close as possible to the facts, not just to prove a hypothesis.

Here, I include our video presentation.
