Week 9 ODL - Group 3: Confirmation

Today's presentation is presented by Group 3. The presenters are Izza, Zulfarhan, Fatin, and Shaney. They present a topic of confirmation in science. As usual, they greet us through WhatsApp and prepare us with slides and a Youtube video of their presentation. After watching the video, they provide a QnA session for us to ask anything regarding the topic. At the end of the presentation, they prepare us with two activities, which are:
  1. list out the hypothesis from a video experiment of Acid and Base Test using Litmus Paper
  2. a quiz for this topic
Summary of this topic:

Based on their presentation, I can summarize that confirmation is the study of the logic by which scientific hypotheses may be confirmed or disconfirmed (or supported or rejected) by evidence. Confirmation can be closely related to the problem of induction, the question of what to believe regarding the future in the face of knowledge that is restricted to the past and present. Confirmation theories rely on measures of how well the evidence related to various alternative hypotheses. There are two concepts of confirmation, absolute (H is highly supported given evidence E) and incremental (E increases the evidential support for H).
Next, they explain about inductive and deductive reasoning. When we make a specific observation to draw a general conclusion, it called inductive reasoning. While deductive reasoning is when we make a general observation to draw a specific conclusion.

Here, I include their video of presentation.
